Trip to the Cold War Air Museum

I have been quite busy recently… I am in the US for a few more days and I had the chance to go to the Cold War Air Museum the other day with Miguel Relayze – http://www.wix.com/relayze/miguelrelayze… here are a few pictures from that trip! (p.s. Thanks to Miguel and Jon Boede for the chance to shoot!)

Its been awhile!

Well once again it has been a long while since I have posted any updates… I have been busy, thats for sure!

One piece of news that you may have already seen on my website is that I have my new logo!

Also, my business cards are finished and they look great thanks to Kathi, my graphics designer and to all of you that I have asked for feedback from!

Another piece of great news is that I currently have a wedding booked next month! It is going to be a great wedding that I am really looking forward to with a chance to do some shooting in the Englischer Garten in the morning. In the evening the reception and dinner will be at the Palmenhaus in the Schloss Nymphenburger grounds, which promises to be great fun!

Finally, here are a few photos (posted from my Flickr account) of things that have been going on over the past month…

April Update

It has been a while since I last posted anything, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing anything!  I have finally finished registering with the different bureaucratic offices. I almost have a new logo, which I will reveal very soon, after the logo is done I’ll have business cards made and I’ll start doing some advertising around town!
I have done a few CV photo sessions recently, which has been good. Business is slowly picking up. It is not doing too bad, considering I haven’t really done much advertising, except for word of mouth and Google. Can’t wait to see what will happen after I do some advertising! If you are interested in booking a wedding, please book soon, so I can reserve a date for you! If you are in need of photos for a German CV or you would like to do business photos or have a portrait sitting, I’ll be doing a few coming up in the next few weeks. If you are interested, please send me an email or give me a call to book a time!

Officially registered photographer!

I went to the Handwerkskammer this morning… I talked with the clerk, he entered the last details of my information into the system that were not there yet, I paid my trade fee, then chatted with the clerk some more (he gave me some good advice and we talked about the US as his wife is an American)  and then I got my trade card! I am now an officially registered photographer!

I am still waiting on paperwork from the Finanzamt that I will have to fill out before I get my tax number. I also found out today that I need to contact the “Berufsgenossenschaft” to see if I am required to get accident insurance from them (I was told they normally should have contacted me already). After those things I should be done with the paperwork side of things. I still have some work to do with getting a logo made and designing business cards and then I can start advertising. I hope to get that stuff done soon! It has definitely not been boring trying to start a new business!

That’s easy!

Wow, that was easy! This morning I went in to the local government offices to finally apply for a business licence. I handed over the paperwork and my passport and explained that I was unsure if I had everything I needed and if I was even supposed to go there first or maybe I should have gone somewhere else first. The lady working there took my paperwork while I was explaining this and while listening she started entering my info right away. She then said that I didn’t need to do anything before going there, in fact I don’t even have to go to the Handwerkskammer (Chamber  of  Trade) because they will be informed as well! The lady was done entering my information within a few minutes and she sent me to the register to pay. I went up, paid the fee and now I have my business license!

So, I am one step closer to being a professional photographer in Germany!!

Big changes coming soon!

There will be some changes coming soon! The biggest one is that I have a new domain and I’ll soon have a new website! www.hepler.org will be my private website and I will move the blog and my portfolio over to the new website. I have been slowly working on this on and off for the last couple of months, but I have now taken a big step.  It will still be a bit before I am completely ready to “go live” with the new site as I have lots of things coming up, including a wedding tomorrow!

Karsten and Irina's Wedding

I have finally finished with Karsten and Irina’s Wedding pictures! I was able to give them most pictures already, but I still have a  few things to finish up before I can concentrate 100% on the next batch of pictures that I have already started working on (there will be a sneak preview on those probably some time in the next week!)

Here are some of the highlights!

David at work…

Here are a few pics of me at the last wedding taken by my second shooter and friend who jumped in literally at the last second to help (thanks again Sai!).  I had free range to go anywhere I wanted so I was up on stage for the better part of the ceremony. I was hiding behind the alter for a bit though, so I was glad that Sai was able to get one shot of me on stage when I came out of hiding!

Update from the front

Hi all! I think it is about time for an update! Here is what has been going on…
I have been on “vacation” this week. I have not left my apartment often but have been quite busy here at home… I have gotten a lot done!

I finally got the computer parts I needed to get to get my “work” PC up and going again. It broke about a year ago and I haven’t had the time or funds to get it up and going. I didn’t really have the funds to spare but I had the time so I did it anyway! I got an AMD Phenom II X4 810 with an Asus M4A78-E AMD 790GX AM2+ motherboard and 8GB of RAM (but I only installed 4GB for right now as I am still in the old school 32 bit OS world!) I installed XP a few days ago. I finished copying a lot of the thousands and thousands of pictures, songs, and website pages a few hours ago. I still need to reorganize them and copy some of the files over. I also have most of the programs installed that I use, but I’ll have another hour or 2 of work to put in on that! I will have more hard drive space again and will not have to worry as much about how much space I have for pictures. The new computer will run much faster than this one I am using. I am expecting that picture conversions and what not will not take as long as they have been.

Yesterday I did a MAJOR spring cleaning! I vacuumed, mopped all of the floors and dusted some. Only place I didn’t mop was under and behind the couch.
Yesterday evening Karsten and Irina came over to look at their wedding pictures.  That is one of my favorite parts of wedding photography; getting to see the newly married couple’s reaction to the photos and reliving the day with them.  They picked out a number of photos so I have some work to do! :-)

On Monday I did a product shoot and was busy Monday night and Tuesday getting those photos edited since they needed to be done quickly before the product goes on sale.

I have also have a chance to look through the photos from the wedding I shot a week ago yesterday. I hope to get to editing those photos some time soon!

Next week I am also on vacation. I am seriously thinking about going on a bike ride. I really need to get away for a bitl. I originally wanted to ride to Budapest, but I don’t think that will happen this year. However, there is a trip that I could take and it would be quicker to get to and come back from and it is a trip that I have been wanting to do for a long time… riding around lake Constance (Bodensee)! I plan on leaving next Wednesday and will probably take the shorter route around for the sake of time. Anyone want to join me? :-)

Well, that is about all for now. Time to get out of the aparment for a change and go on a bike ride!
